About Kauai |
Just
one step short of heaven is the Garden Island of
Kauai, perhaps more aptly christened “The Garden of
Eden.” The northernmost and archeologically oldest
of the Hawaiian Islands, Kauai embraces all the
fantasies of the daydreamer’s vision of an idyllic
South Seas island escape. Under a giant cathedral of
expansive blue sky lie verdant valleys artistically
etched by millenniums of wind, sea and
sun. The lure of Kauai is its wildness, its
rainforests, its untamed folds of high ridges and
deep valleys laden with waterfalls and laced with
rainbows. Here you will find the natural wonders of
Waimea Canyon – the “Grand Canyon of the Pacific”,
the famed Fern Grotto, the awe inspiring Na Pali
Coastline, and the backdrop for an avalanche of
movies including King Kong, Jurassic Park, and
Raiders of The Lost Ark.
Soft
trade winds caress palm fronds aside uncrowded
beaches and azure seas. The offshore reefs provide
the aquatic playground for a teeming array of
colorful sea life. And for the adventurous
vacationer there’s snorkeling, scuba,
river/ocean/pool swimming, deep sea fishing,
sailing, board & wind surfing, boogey boarding,
kayaking, and sight seeing on a variety of
watercraft. Onshore, the options are equally as
plentiful. Enjoy golf at a PGA
venue or tackle “The Prince”, rated Hawaii’s #1
course by Golf Digest. With an ambient year round
temperature averaging in the mid-80’s, Kauai is a
hiker’s heaven, offering untold waterfall,
coastline, and jungle adventures. And then of course
there is tennis, horseback riding, polo in season,
sightseeing, movie and helicopter tours, national
wildlife sanctuaries, botanical gardens, camping,
and for the extreme sport’s enthusiast – ziplining
high above the jungle floor. For those seeking
solitude, spend a leisurely day beachcombing the
dozens of powdery, uncrowded beaches or stroll the
streets of sleepy hamlets window shopping and
chatting with locals. And when the hunger pangs hit,
your choice of ambiance and menu are plentiful and
varied, from pizza to Pacific Rim cuisine…from luaus
& tropical libations to luxurious seaside dining.
All told, Kauai is NOT the hustle-bustle of Honolulu
or the touristy madness of Maui. To visit Kauai is
to travel back in time to a bygone era, to a more
peaceful and provincial existence, where words like
onramps, freeways, and smog have yet to taint the
universal consciousness. It’s a place where
skyscrapers are replaced by palm trees and busy
intersections with one-lane bridges. And following
closely in step are the islands most precious
natural resource...its people. For them, words like
community, family and neighbor are still spoken with
reverence. Mainlanders call this warm phenomenon the
“Aloha Spirit” and it’s as certain to welcome and
embrace you as are the prevailing trade winds. |
